Hi Dave,

great idea, I also thought of something like this today, since I plan to 
get a DD20. Anyway, there is a device, it's called the "3rd Hand" and 
made by T.I.P., I saw it in an ad in the German maginze "Guitar / Bass".

you also may check this link. A bit expensive, but it seems to be very 
solid.
