MFA: Loop-Lab is a live looping instrumental duo. The idea has been developed over the last few years, and finally came to fruition in the summer of 2006. Using the most innovative looping technology, MFA: Loop-Lab creates spontaneous layers of electronic music, completely improvised, and constructed entirely from the most basic – yet the most important – sonic element: silence. In other words, there are no pre-written or pre-recorded samples; all of the music within the Loop-Lab is created on the spot and for the moment – including the beats. There are no written arrangements at all, making the music completely improvisational. Stylistically, the tracks range from breakbeats, drum and bass, IDM, and other unclassifiable electronic music styles. Whereas MFA: The Drop is a live band, MFA: Loop-Lab is closer to a Live PA act. As with all MFA projects, MFA: Loop-Lab is very danceable, and very intriguing to watch the musicians construct and create the tracks. Both artists play several different instruments and other pieces of equipment, merging the latest technology with a few ancient West African percussive and melodic instruments. MFA: Loop-Lab consists of Chris Anton (keys, melody, glitch, electronic drums, guitar) and Chris Newton (low end, keys, electronic drums, percussion, mbira).
