Chris Richards
Age:29
Location:Cleveland, Ohio, USA
Email Address(es):Kohntarkosz@yahoo.com
Projects/Ensembles:Presently working as a solo musician
Instruments:Fender Stratocaster, used with an array of effects pedals, including Line 6 Filter and Modulation Modelers, vintage Colorsound wah wah and various fuzztones. If I ever get it repaired, I'll be adding my Mini-moog in there someplace, as well.
Looping Gear:Right now I just have a Line 6 DL-4 Delay Modeler. This will change soon, as I'm planning to expand my rig to include at least one other looping device. I'll likely be getting a Boomerang next, and then either a Boss Loop Station and/or an Echoplex. But that's more than you really need to know right now, isn't it? :-)
Influences:Pretty much everything that's ever caught my ear. This would include everything from Kiss and Uriah Heep to King Crimson and Yes to David Torn and Terje Rypdal to John Coltrane and Rahsaan Roland Kirk to Tangerine Dream and Heldon, as well as lots of others. :-)
Musical Style:For now, I call what I do solo electric guitar improvisation. I have motifs that I work off, certain chord sequences, or melodic patterns or rhythms, but the way they fit together is completely spontaneous.
Recordings Available:None at the moment, though I'm hoping that will change in the coming months.
I've been listening to music virtually my entire life, since my oldest brother blasted Uriah Heep, Kiss and Deep Purple records while watching me when our parents were away when I was little. It's been a major part of my life, and it seems that I'm constantly being drawn to music as a participant, not just as an observer. I don't claim to do anything that's unique or groundbreaking in any way. I merely try to play the guitar as well as I can, and I do my best to mix my different influences in a way that allows me to avoid sounding to much like any one musician I admire. I've been playing the guitar for nearly 20 years now, though I've always been too bashful and embarassed to ask other musicians if I could sit in with them. Hence, I've never been able to establish any kind of professional career. I'm at a point where I realize I'll never make any real money doing this kind of music, but I think I'm finally ready to present myself and my music, such as it is, to the world!
