My rig has now grown to a 10core i9 self-built hackintosh running Mojave & utilizing 16 stereo looping tracks of Mobius as well as MainStage for my DAW / tone management. What you see in this video is accomplished using some customized techniques / scripts that allow me to use the same MIDI foot button over & over & over again, all while executing an entirely new set of commands each time I push the button. There are typically 30-40 button presses per song and the timing is somewhat precise but becomes second nature after a few hundred attempts. This technique eliminates all the fancy footwork & also allows me to accomplish 10 or 20 different actions all at once with a single button press. These actions include engaging track records, overdubs, volume, mutes, pan, reverse, loop switching, tone changing, syncing external hardware patches, etc=E2=80=A6. I can even make individual LED lights chang= e color & brightness on my piano to help me remember what octave I need to play the particular synth part in. MIDI IS AWESOME!! I can set these triggers to happen immediately upon pressing the button or on the next downbeat, as all my songs are typically the same tempo start to finish and I play along to a metronome in my headphones, so there is a useful grid of sorts. The collection of all these commands exists as a simple, single text document which Mobius reads & runs throughout the song and for example this song Mirrorball has 35 button presses, contains 1773 lines of code and utilizes 22,451 characters in the script. There are no pre-recorded tracks whatsoever, I always start with an empty canvas and I=E2=80=99m anxious to release another video showing everyone th= e Mobius UI, which will explain how all this stuff happens in real time. All of my live-looping music seems more like a live-orchestration, so for me there is not much improv but that doesn=E2=80=99t mean this methodology couldn=E2=80= =99t help other people/musicians accomplish different things with it. In my looping style it certainly feels like a Formula1 or dirt-rally race car driver who is aiming for a perfect run on the course, building the songs turn by turn, layer by layer; and many times I crash into the wall!!! It gets quite tricky and I have a few visual systems that help me stay on course if I need to remember what particular action comes next in the song. I really wanted to share this inside-info to loopers-delight before any other platform as I truly enjoyed this email list back when I first fell into the rabbit hole of live-looping. hi loopers

= i=E2=80=99m pretty sure this has been asked many times before, so excuse my= questioning, and there are already answers i=E2=80=99d appreciate beign po= inted in the right direction=E2=80=A6.

anyhow, i= =E2=80=99ve been using Mobius for about 5 years for guitar looping, as it a= llowed me to work in the same way for recording and live. i use it in LIVE = 9 on Mac running Mojave. all was fine until a year or so ago when i replace= d my old MacBook and had problems with latency / freezing of the UI.
<= div>The looper works fine either standalone or as plain with LIVE, but the = interface doesn=E2=80=99t update / freezes so i can=E2=80=99t see visually = where i am. I=E2=80=99m controlling it with a FCB-1010 via Focusrite Saffir= e Pro 26

i=E2=80=99ve made the assumption that i w= ill have to find an alternative to Mobius (i use J-bridge to make it work i= n Mojave).

this is where the problems start=E2=80= =A6. i=E2=80=99ve looked at the looper in LIVE, but can=E2=80=99t figure ou= t how to have up to 8 stereo loopers i can switch between with the MIDI con= troller.

I=E2=80=99ve also looked at SooperLooper = but haven=E2=80=99t got too far with figuring out how to run multiple insta= nces with each outputting to a separate track in LIVE for recording

With Mobius as a plugin, i run this on Channel 1, then ou= tput each loop into a separate stereo channel as 2-9. Each track 2-9 then r= ecords the loop output on that track, or the live guitar on the selected Mo= bius channel (so if i select loop 3, it records the track 4 in LIVE - Track= 1 is purely for input.

can anyone help with how i= could do this using LIVE or Logic with MIDI foot control using an alternat= e looper, or have a solution to the UI latency/freeze issue with Mobius?

i=E2=80=99d be very grateful for any assistance

many thanks in advance

Jon / = yellow6

The point of going multi-output is to be able to mix properly. But I don't like how that kind of setup affects my musical looping performance, so I stopped doing that and started to perform with Mobius standalone and caring more about the sound I put into the looper; i.e. playing with an instrument tone that already sounds as it typically does if soloing a track out of a DAW mix context. This way it sounds pretty decent when all loops sum up in the Mobius master track. When I intend to record for a high-quality documentation I do two things: (1) record the full Mobius Master all through the performance and (2) after the performance I save the Mobius session (I think the command is called "Save as Project", but I may be wrong about that) in the way that I get all loops as separate audio files, named with the track number and the loop number from the session. Then I fire up a DAW (Logic, Cubase or Bitwig), throw the Mobius Master Stereo recording file into a track and adjust the DAW time-line to sync with whatever tempo I was doing during the Mobius recording. Next is to find out parts of the arrangement where it makes sense to (fully or partly) replace the full stereo recording with separate loop files on parallel DAW tracks, and this is a lot of fun. This method has been helpful for music with lots of improvisation and where you also treat the Mobius looper as an instrument during the recording. The technical way to record the Mobius stereo output - including all macro mangling - can be to snag it with a separate software like Audio HiJack (Mac only) or use the excellent Record function in Mobius (assign Start Recording and End Recording to two computer keys and just have Mobius render the master track in realtime while you're playing).
