one further tip - clear you browsers cache

I've been trying to connect my 2006 LP1 through ethe= rnet directly to my laptop to upgrade the OS via a browser...unfortunately I= can't get the connection to work. Here's what I'm doing:

1) Set LP1 as follows from my 1.20 manual:

IP:  192.168.99.2
Gate:  192.168.99.1
Netmask: 255.255.255.0

2) Set laptop ethernet:properties:Internet Protocol Version 4 to the e= xact same settings as the LP1.
3) Open browser and try to connect with: http://192.168.99.2 but it eventually times out.
4) I've tried with both a regular eth= ernet cable and a crossover cable...no connection.
5) I've also tried letting the laptop dynamica= lly determine the IP, Gate, Netmask...no connection.

For any others struggling with this, connected the LP1 to my router... 1) Found my router IP 10.1.10.1 and set my LP1 IP to 10.1.10.20 which was > my laptop IP 2) Set my LP1 Gateway to my router IP 3) Set my LP1 Netmask to 255.255.255.0 4) Opened a CMD window and successfully ran ping 10.1.10.20 Still couldn't connect with the browser so just for fun I ran the LP1Ctl.jar and it actually connected! After a couple minutes I looked at my browser tab (which I'd left open) and it had connected as well. Ran a few upgrades with the java tool. Shut it all down and restarted...browser won't connect again, but the java tool still works. What a mess, but at least I got out of the buggy OS I'd loaded to something better. I should also add a couple things I experienced... 1) I tried multiple firmware releases (1.38g, 1.30, 2.22, 2.02, 2.06) and none had the "assignable function" mellotron feature described in the 1.38 manual...at least not that I could find in any master or track menu item or button assignment mode. If I'm missing something obvious about how to implement this, could someone kindly tell me how to make it work? 2) My LP1 completely hung twice...once during my initial downgrade from 2.22 to 1.30 and again on the upgrade from 2.02 to 2.06. I'd read on the Looperlative FB page that turning the LP1 off while hung in upgrade/downgrade mode could corrupt the machine requiring it to be sent back to Bob for repair...and with his limited involvement in the project these days, who knows how long that could take. I waited about 5 minutes while the machine was hung and took a gamble and power cycled it. Luckily both times it started back up with no problems. In other words, don't undertake this upgrade without understanding the risk of turning your LP1 into a brick! Hallo,
ifrst post so= please forgive any list protocol mistakes.
A physically disabled= musician/colleague of mine has asked me to build her a DJ-like looper prog= ram (I can use PD or Supercollider), with an arcade joystick as the hardwar= e interface. The design technicalities are up to me and she has been fairly= specific about the nature of the instrument. The joystick offers 4-axis bi= nary switches, with an additional 8 binary switches. My question is this: i= f this instrument was all you had to hand (on a desert island e.g.) what pa= rameters would you wish to have available? Buttons for sounds (notes and hi= ts), and joystick for control (record/overdub/erase etc.); or vice-versa. O= ption anxiety is a challenge at the moment, so any advice would be very muc= h appreciated. Many thanks.

It seems temporary functions like stutter or fx control would work better (so when the joystick is released everything goes back to 'normal' state). The 8 additional buttons can be used in many ways, for example [1-3] could be dedicated to loop selection while [4-8] to trigger specific function (record, mute, reverse, clear etc.). As Andy pointed out a lot depends of the intended use/type of music. When designing the interface the ergonomics should be the priority (I know its obvious but important) - for this you must work closely with your colleague. It might be useful to take a look at the following devices which offer quite different user interfaces - Boss RC-202/505, Korg Kaoss Pad KP3, Electro-Harmonix 22500/95000, Pioneer RMX-1000. For some of them you can download manuals with information about MIDI implementation - this is what the designers thought is useful for controlling the devices externally, it should give you some clues as well. Hello Brendan,

I would rather avoid joystick for critical functions because of the risk of unintended use.

Hallo,
ifrst post so please forgive any list protocol mistakes.
A physically disabled musician/colleague of mine has asked me to build her a DJ-like looper program (I can use PD or Supercollider), with an arcade joystick as the hardware interface. The design technicalities are up to me and she has been fairly specific about the nature of the instrument. The joystick offers 4-axis binary switches, with an additional 8 binary switches. My question is this: if this instrument was all you had to hand (on a desert island e.g.) what parameters would you wish to have available? Buttons for sounds (notes and hits), and joystick for control (record/overdub/erase etc.); or vice-versa. Option anxiety is a challenge at the moment, so any advice would be very much appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi Jon

Not sure how much I can help here, since although I use Mobius, I don't use the FCB1010, or Live, but I seem to recall discussions on the currently defunct forums, about MIDI issues with Live, surrounding whether you're controlling Mobius via Live, or directly (which I think is the preferred method).

Is the issue happening only when you're using mobius as a plug-in, or does it happen standalone too? Your description of the Live display freezing too suggests it might be a Live/Mobius issue, though I experience UI freezes with mobius vst within bidule, which is 99.9% reliable, though still-present bugs in mobius do cause problems sometimes; multiplying is one function that can cause UI freezes. So is over-enthusiastic MIDI free-improvisation :)

I don't know if you use any sync at all, but even without switch quantization enabled, or external sync etc, I sometimes find mobius waiting for the end of a loop to act on a record/multiply/mute etc command - it's simply some interpretation mobius has of the situation thinking it should be a 'quantized' midi action. Often it's when I've reset tr1 for some reason (that's my only sync source), and it switches allegiance to some other track.

Sadly the forums have still not returned (& 64 bit mobius hasn't appeared either), but you may find a clue in the old yahoo group (closed ~7 years ago), at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/zonemobius/info

Since your OS is pretty up-to-date, & I guess your Live is too, (though Live 9, I believe, stopped supporting 32 bit plug-ins - could this be relevant?), I'm guessing any help at 'zonemobius' will be past its use-by date :(

The documentation is my best advice, but of course this is also incomplete, so the user-base knowledge is invaluable. Hopefully a mobius/live user is already at his/her keyboard as I hit 'send'.....
