Who is a Meta Instrumentalist?

Are you a "meta instrumentalist"?

What to do when the Softstep flopped and the Gordius Mac editor is due
next century? While I'm dreaming about dual X/Y lazer control grids in
the air this guy, Onyx Ashanti, gets his hands dirty building himself
a kind of controller suite based on an electronics helmet, gaffered-on
TouchOSC iPhones and a lappy doing PD.

Stelarc was pioneering this connecting electronics to bodily
functions. Today he is known for "growing a third ear on his left
forearm" (!)

I visited a Stelarc gig once but didn't find it to be much about
music. Follower Onyx seems to apply similar ideas with a more musical
approach. He describes his goal as "to create the most amazing live
music performance system ever”.

One has to also mention Jamie Lidell here. Dusting off those old soul
poses in a mesmerizing way.

It is fun to see new meta instrument approaches people come up with.
Hopefully they are based on visions of a new music... ;-))
