Yes, laptop is much more versatile.
On the other hand it doesn't replace the EDP
(even though Mobius comes close, and is obviously more powerful in many 
ways )
..and the advantage with the EDP is that the user interface
is designed for improvising loopers by improvising loopers,
and refined by improvising loopers over the years.
That is to say, you get access to a lot of functionality with just
a few footswitches. 


Hard to say, a laptop with Mobius may do everything you want,
or you may find there's EDP tricks you like that it doesn't handle.
For basic looping, Mobius runs more or less like an EDP clone if you 
want, using the same MIDI controls. Beyond that, it's a totally different 
beast. 



One day, it'll all be laptops. Apart from the pre-amps, mixers,
and DIs.
