Per,

I don't think it *requires* Max, it can just work with it.  There 
appears to be configuration software supplied with the unit.

Looks pretty nifty - I like the idea of the standard EDP footpedal, 
combined with a small customized MIDI stomper for important Direct MIDI 
commands.
